Faculty Position in Landscape Architecture

(Focus: Landscape Design and History)

 

 

The Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (http://www.aub.edu.lb/fafs/ldem/Pages/default.aspx) at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (http://www.aub.edu.lb/fafs/pages/default.aspx) at the American University of Beirut (http://www.aub.edu.lb/) invites outstanding candidates to apply for the full-time faculty position in Landscape Architecture at the level of Assistant Professor or higher. The target starting date of the appointment is January 15, 2020. The position is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in which research is pivotal. The incumbent is expected to align with the strategic research and teaching priorities of the department and the faculty (The mission and vision of the department are available at: http://www.aub.edu.lb/fafs/ldem/Pages/aboutldem.aspx). Appointments are for an initial period of four years.

 

The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) was established in 1952. It aspires to foster the sustainable enhancement of the health and well-being of people and nature throughout Lebanon and the region. 

 

The Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management (LDEM) was established at FAFS in 2007. It brings together faculty members from various disciplines including Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Horticulture, Natural Resources Management, and Landscape Planning. LDEM currently offers a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) with a Diploma of Ingenieur Agricole and a Master of Science in Environmental Sciences (MSES) with a specialization in Ecosystem Management (ECOM). Currently, the Department consists of eight full-time faculty, several part-time lecturers and approximately 90 students. The BLA program is registered at the New York State of Education Department (NYSED) and is currently in the process of seeking accreditation from ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects). The essence of the department lies in its interdisciplinary nature, equally in teaching and in research with applications in the larger Middle Eastern region. To that end, the Department builds on the strong linkages established with other academic units within and outside the faculty. The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) has been developed with a vision of becoming the leading program in the Arab World, which produces leading architects of open spaces who are responsive to the cultural and natural needs of the Arab World. 

Position focus: The Department is particularly interested in candidates who have a strong potential for research and creative scholarship and demonstrated ability to teach design studios and courses in the area of landscape history and theory.  

Qualifications: Applicants should have a terminal degree in landscape architecture. Preference will be given to holders of a PhD degree in landscape architecture or a related field or evidence of publications (include 3 publications).  

Responsibilities: Teaching the landscape history and theory course sequence; teaching design studios; research in the area of interest and service to the department, faculty, university and the community.
