Associate or Full Professor and Chair, Landscape Architecture Department
The Department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University is seeking a dynamic and accomplished leader with an interest in collaborative and interdisciplinary design education to join the faculty in the role of Department Chair at the rank of professor or associate professor with tenure. This position is a full-time (B-base, 9 month) appointment with a standard additional month of salary support during the summer. Additional summer support is negotiable.
The successful candidate will cultivate a strong and cohesive community among 11 tenured/tenure track faculty, 4 lecturers and adjunct faculty, and approximately 160 undergraduate and 23 graduate students. The chair will represent the department in its relationship with allied programs, college and university administration, alumni, the profession, and the public while supporting all three dimensions of the land-grant mission: education, research/creative inquiry, and outreach. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate experience and capability in strategic planning, sponsored research, and program management; must be able to foster effective communication skills among diverse audiences; and cultivate a culture of diversity and inclusivity. As an academic leader, the candidate should show an in-depth knowledge of his or her field and exhibit an appreciation and respect for allied disciplines.
The Chair is the designated executive officer of the department and is responsible for oversight of personnel matters, faculty recruitment and advancement, budget, departmental governance, collaborative efforts, external relations, as well as central administrative operations of the department. In this capacity, the chair serves at the pleasure of the Dean of the College of Design.

The department is energized by committed and creative faculty and the establishment of two new interdisciplinary graduate programs in Urban Design (MUD) and Design in Sustainable Environments (MDSE) in which landscape architecture faculty play a key role. Required Qualifications:
– A Masters in Landscape Architecture OR a relevant terminal degree with 10 years of academic and/or professional experience.
– Meet the university standards for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.
– In addition to the above, applicants for Full Professor must also have a strong national and international scholarly reputation.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Significant recognition in one or more of the following areas: research, teaching, professional practice or outreach in the field of Landscape Architecture;
– Significant experience in academic administration and/or supervisory experience including fiscal, negotiation, and personnel management;
– Demonstrated experience with collaborative initiatives.
