Landscape architecture is the design profession which shapes the public domain of urban environment, particularly in relation to the contemporary challenges of urbanisation, migration, sustainability and climate change.
The role of Associate Professor is to build the Faculty’s capacity by undertaking high quality research, developing the curriculum and teaching portfolio, and making a significant contribution to leadership. The role has responsibility for conducting research with the objective of ensuring that UNSW Built Environment is recognised by grant funders, employers and students as the leading Australian school in this area.
About the successful applicant
To be successful in this role you will:
Provide research and academic leadership within the Faculty and School;
Engage in internationally-competitive research that is consistent with the broad research aims of the Faculty and School, that aligns with the strategic research directions of UNSW Built Environment;
Maintain and develop a distinguished research record through leadership of a research team, and through the funding and execution of a high-quality research program, publication of research findings in high-impact journals, and successful completion of higher degree research students;
Provide consultation and feedback to students, regarding assessments including marking assignments, mid-session and final examinations;
Contribute to undergraduate teaching within the Faculty and School, including participation in the development, delivery, assessment and administration of courses and programs.
Achieve and maintain a high standard of supervision of research students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
Contribute to the effective administrative functioning of the School and Faculty, through engagement in relevant School, Faculty and University committees or groups; and develop new course material and flexible approaches to teaching and learning for the Discipline;
Participate in seminars, meetings and committees in the School, Faculty and University;
Mentor academics and/or HDR students in their development of successful research careers;
Contribute to the advancement of the broad discipline and profession through effective engagement with relevant national and international bodies or groups; and maintain established productive links with external professional and research bodies, agencies or institutions.
Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for tasks, projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
