Productive Landscape History
Knowlton School – College of Engineering
The Landscape Architecture Section at y seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Associate Professor or Assistant Professor Level. We are looking for applicants whose research and teaching illuminate the cultural, historical and ecological dimensions of productive landscapes past and present. We welcome applicants working on any part of the globe, in any time, and with diverse methodological approaches. We encourage applicants from disciplines including but not limited to environmental history, geography, landscape architecture, and planning. Candidates should be able to teach landscape history surveys and research seminars. Potential research interests within the history of productive landscapes might include agricultural production; garden history; the relation between food production and urban form; and cultural landscape and cultural anthropology.
The successful candidate will join a large, distinguished team of faculty members from across the university collaborating on the Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation (InFACT) to develop a comprehensive, transformative approach to sustainable food systems. As InFACT faculty within the landscape architecture section, successful candidates will be expected to lead interdisciplinary projects and initiate transformative research projects with colleagues across Ohio State’s campuses. At Ohio State, landscape architecture, architecture, and city and regional planning form the Knowlton School—an open learning environment that fosters exchange among these three disciplines. The Initiative for Food and AgriCultural Transformation, InFACT, is a Discovery Theme program setting the strategic direction for The Ohio State University’s support of food systems that are sustainable, defined as achieving a balance of ecology, economy, technology, and culture to promote the overall well-being of people, animals and the natural environment. This position is partially funded by Ohio State’s Discovery Themes, a significant faculty hiring investment in key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of academic collaboration to make a global impact. Qualifications:
Applicants are required to have a terminal degree (PhD or Master’s) at the time of application. We are looking for candidates whose record demonstrates great promise of productivity and excellence in research and teaching. Preferred qualifications involve program experience, experience mentoring members of underrepresented groups and experience developing or working in interdisciplinary research teams.
