Onkruid vergaat niet, onkruid bestaat niet

In memory of Pol Ghekiere by Steven Goossens, Erasmus University College Brussels, Belgium

Pol Ghekiere, 1950 – 2016, lecturer at the Erasmus University College Brussels

Pol Ghekiere lectured at the School of Landscape Architecture, he started his career in 1976 in Vilvoorde, Belgium. In 2005 he became head of the programme at Erasmuhogeschool Brussel. He retired from the university in 2012 but continued sharing his expertise with students and professionals.

As a lecturer he passed on his passion for landscape architecture, culture and art to several generations of landscape architects in Belgium and beyond.

Internationally he was involved in several European educational networks: ECLAS/Le:Notre and professional networks BVTL/IFLA.

For the university he established partnerships with several European Universities and programmes in landscape architecture. His work resulted in joined projects, such as intensive programmes. His main goal was to stimulate students and colleagues to have an open and international mind-set and have this international experience.

For the profession he was the representative of the Belgian Association of Landscape Architects in IFLA and he was a member of the IFLA Education Committee from 2007-2014.

Pol Ghekiere passed away on December 19,  2016. The spirit, energy and passion he had for landscape architecture will be remembered by many of us, students, colleagues and landscape architects.

Onkruid vergaat niet, onkruid bestaat niet.  Weeds do not spoil, weeds do not exist.
