Student Competition Neckar Landscape Park

We are glad to announce a new international student competition for all landscape enthusiasts. The contest is now open for registration. Please disseminate our call among your students.

We invite students from all planning and design disciplines to envision alternative futures for the river Neckar in the urban agglomeration of Stuttgart in Germany. The international competition ‘Landscape Park Neckar – Re-imagining the Productive City Region’ follows the guiding theme of the IBA’27 StadtRegion Stuttgart. The competition will run from 1 October 2022 to 31 January 2023.

The riverine urban agglomeration serves as a context to look at least 50 years into the future: How will we live, work, produce and move? What kind of landscape do we need in a climate-adapted world that is also fair and inclusive? How will we cultivate these landscapes? What innovative forms of production might be possible?

The young generation of planners can think further about the existing master plan for the Neckar Landscape Park. In doing so, the urgent sustainability issues of our time must be included. This is not only a matter of producing new spatial images with creative ideas. Modelling of the necessary transformation processes is an essential element of the competition task. Therefore, accompanying online lectures will help everyone to understand the spatial context in a well-founded way.

In this sense, the competition covers the section of the Neckar from Nürtingen to Altbach, which must first be understood holistically in its entirety. In a next step, the teams can work on one of four themes in Nürtingen, Wendlingen, Plochingen and Altbach in spatial and conceptual depth.

This ideas competition is based on a cooperation between Verband Region Stuttgart, the IBA’27 StadtRegion Stuttgart and the LE:NOTRE Institute with Nürtingen-Geislingen University in Germany. The contest prepares for the Landscape Forum Stuttgart Region 2023, during which the competition award ceremony will also take place. During this event, the international landscape community will gather in Nürtingen from 27.06. – 01.07.2023 to explore and reflect on the region’s landscape in a transdisciplinary manner. The forum will run in parallel to the first IBA’27 festival.
