Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture in the Department of Architecture (Ref.: 201700676)

 

Applications are invited for an appointment as Professor/Associate Professor in the Division of Landscape Architecture under the Department of Architecture, with an anticipated start date of summer 2018. The successful candidate with more experience and qualifications will be appointed as Professor and will be considered for direct tenure subject to approval. For Associate Professor, the post will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal with consideration for tenure during the second fixed-term contract. The selected candidate will also serve as Head of the Division.

 

Landscape Architecture has been taught at the University since 1993 and became a distinct academic unit in 2009. The Division of Landscape Architecture offers an undergraduate programme in landscape studies and an accredited professional Master of Landscape Architecture degree with a student body of approximately 140. The Division has gained international recognition for design-focused excellence in research and teaching that engages complex issues of urbanism while establishing the disciplinary vanguard in the region. Southeast Asia and China are areas of particular attention for landscape research and practice centered on transnational infrastructure in addition to social and environmental issues in emerging economies. The Division seeks a candidate to provide academic leadership, as Head of the Division, to shape and deliver a strategic vision that builds on ongoing research and pedagogical initiatives. Applicants should have proven management ability and leadership skills, and show evidence of substantive contributions to University/departmental level missions and services.  They should have the ability to create an intellectually-stimulating work environment and one which fosters good working relationships among staff members and links with external bodies.

 

Applicants should have attained high academic standing and possess an established scholarship record that incorporates elements of research, teaching and critical practice at an internationally recognized level. They should hold a professional degree in landscape architecture, and licensure from an internationally recognized professional institute. A doctorate in landscape architecture or a related field is desired. 

 

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefits.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
