The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield has an international reputation and track record of excellence in research, innovation, and education in Landscape Architecture. Historically we have been instrumental in introducing foundational techniques for Landscape Character Assessment, and Sensitivity and Capacity analysis. Currently, we are at the forefront of national and international research agendas relating to interdisciplinary research into the planning and management of green/blue infrastructure, addressing health inequalities and wellbeing through landscape, promoting diversity and inclusion in public open spaces as well as ground-breaking methodologies for landscape assessment and spatial analysis.
We are looking to build on this foundation by recruiting a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, who will be committed to bringing their own vision to develop and diversify our work in landscape planning. The following overview, person specification and job description are pitched at Lecturer level-please see the university’s Academic Career Pathway for the expectations at Lecturer and Senior Lecturer level respectively. You will have a disciplinary background in Landscape Architecture or other relevant discipline e.g. geography, landscape ecology, planning, architecture or urban design. You’ll be able to apply your disciplinary expertise in the context of Landscape Architecture, and demonstrate the ability to make a significant contribution to a Department that delivers leading Landscape Architectural research, vocational education and professional impact.
Relevant areas of expertise include perspectives on landscape planning across different international contexts, green/blue infrastructure, landscape planning toolkits (landscape and visual impact assessment, landscape character assessment), environmental science and management, nature based solutions, digital applications for landscape planning (e.g. in visualisation), stakeholder and community engagement and landscape planning policy.
We are looking for applicants who are enthusiastic advocates of landscape and landscape architecture as a means of providing creative solutions to the global challenges of climate change, urban livability, environmental justice, sustainable development and biodiversity loss; with ability to design and deliver high-quality, research led, teaching on our programmes to ensure effective learning. Applicants should have a strong commitment to developing as research leaders, generating high quality outputs and impact, but also leading and inspiring students, research associates, and colleagues to develop further the distinctive profile and contribution of Landscape Architectural research at Sheffield.
