Hours:Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type:Permanent
Placed On:10th November 2022

The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield is the only independent department in the field within the UK. We have an international reputation and track record of excellence in research, innovation and education in the planning, design and management of landscapes. The Department is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and contributes to the Faculty research agendas of Health and Wellbeing, Sustainable Futures and Inclusive Society. This in turn sits within the wider university Vision, organised under its four pillars of research, innovation, education and one university.

We are currently strengthening our teaching team by appointing a new academic member of staff to the position of University Teacher (full-time and part-time options). We are looking for a creative individual(s) with a strong interest in/commitment to the discipline and profession of Landscape Architecture, an enthusiasm for teaching delivery and a collegiate outlook and approach to their work and career development within our Department. You will design and deliver teaching in Landscape Architecture approaches and skills for undergraduate and postgraduate students, working within our guiding principles of ‘Hopeful, Greener Futures’ and ‘Equality Matters’. Your teaching will directly influence and equip students for their future roles in the profession addressing the global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and landscape justice.

You will have a background in Landscape Architecture or other relevant discipline e.g. geography, landscape ecology, planning, horticulture or urban design. You will be able to apply your expertise in the context of Landscape Architecture and demonstrate the ability to make a significant contribution to a Department that delivers leading Landscape Architectural research, vocational education and professional impact.

We are keen to support greater diversity within our profession, so welcome candidates who can demonstrate working with communities or in contexts commonly marginalized by mainstream development priorities, and can support our students to embed equality and inclusion approaches in their work. The position is open to job share, and so we welcome applications for either full time or part time commitments (2.5 days, in department teaching and leadership).

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
